Because of area donations, students who attended Dawson Springs High School prom could stay after the dance for a night of fun.

Teacher Ashley McKnight organized Project Prom and sought donations from various local businesses and individuals. Monetary donations went to provide games, food, prizes and other supplies.

The students could participate in casino-type games, various inflatable races or competitions. They could also play volleyball and relax with their friends. Food was provided. Those who stayed were eligible for prizes at the end of the night.

It was an "awesome event that helped keep around 100 students in a safe environment," McKnight said. "Without the generosity of the community to help put this event on, then it couldn't take place."

The donations totaled $5,800. Lowe's in Madisonville donated nearly $1,500 in merchandise that was given away at the end of the night as prizes.
