A new era for the Dawson Springs Chamber of Commerce began at Tuesday’s meeting when member voted to merge the chamber with the Main Street Program.

Circuit Court Judge James Brantley denied the request for an injunction against the smoking ban in Hopkins County last week.

Graveside services for Blanche Calvert, 95, Dawson Springs, will be held at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at McNeely Cemetery. The Rev. Randall Rogers will officiate.

Sunday, Nov. 16, will be the one year anniversary of the Dawson Springs Schools Revive Prayer Walk. The walk will be held in the high school lobby from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

Lila Sisk of Dawson Springs, a retired Carharrt employee, was the winner of $500 worth of gas raffled off by the Rotary Club as part of their annual Rotary Auction.

Abigail McGregor won the K-2 decorated pumpkin contest in the local school. Her pumpkin was decorated as Junie B. Jones. D.J. Thorpe won the grades 3-6 contest. His pumpkin was decorated as Frosty.

John M. Evans Jr. is the new president of Trans Financial Bank in Dawson Springs. He assumed his duties Monday, succeeding Pete Turner.

The 7th annual Christmas Lights Dedication will kick off the holiday season in Dawson Springs on Friday, Nov. 19, the Christmas Decorations Committee has announced.

Funeral for Mrs. Elizabeth W. Freeman, 77, was held Tuesday morning at Resurrection Catholic Church. Father Martin Mattingly officiated. Burial was in Rosedale Cemetery. A Rosary service was held Monday night at Beshear Funeral Home.

John Rice Tully, O.D., 75 died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3 at his residence, 207 Hamby Ave. Visitation at Beshear Funeral Home was from 12 noon to 8 p.m. Saturday. There were no formal services.

Services for Bernice C. Darnell, 83, were held Sunday afternoon, Nov. 7, at the Gilland Ridge General Baptist Church. The Rev. Craig Logan officiated, assisted by the Rev. Don Neal and the Rev. Lake Richardson. Burial was in the Gilland Ridge General Baptist Church Cemetery.

Funeral for Mr. Mattie Bennett, 82, was held Wednesday afternoon at Beshear Funeral Home. The Rev. Morris McClain officiated, assisted by the Rev. Audie Brandon. Burial was in Ilsley Cemetery.

Last rites for Maxwell T. Driskill, 73, were conducted Sunday afternoon at Beshear Funeral Home. The Rev. Tom Davis officiated. Burial was in Rosedale Cemetery.

An earth tremor struck here and in a wide area of the mid-west about 11:00 Saturday morning.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Rosa Bell Dew, 78, Thursday afternoon at Beshear Funeral Home. The Rev. Clark Ford and the Rev. Jesse S. Bell officiated. Burial was in Rosedale Cemetery.

Charles B. Mitchell, formerly of Dawson Springs, died in Detroit, Mich,. and was buried there Sept. 28 in National Memorial Cemetery after a military ceremony.

A Pep Rally with a huge bonfire was held in the New Century Hotel lot Monday night.

Last rites were conducted for Miss Ruth Terry, 65, Monday morning at Beshear Funeral Home. Elder Russell Beshear officiated. Burial was in Rosedale Cemetery.
