Plans for the 71st annual Dawson Springs Barbecue are underway and the committee is searching for groups to set up booths at the street fair.
The Barbecue is always the fourth Friday in July. This year it's July 26. The Barbecue is the annual fundraiser for the Dawson Springs Community Center.
Those interested in setting up a booth from 6 to 10 p.m. should contact Kathy Nichols at 270-836-3959 or at firstname.lastname@example.org. It will cost $20 to have a booth, but the organization manning the booth will keep the profits. The booth is approximately 10 feet wide by 10 feet deep. The organization, whether it be church-, school- or community-oriented, must provide games or food as well as prizes, change and anything else needed for the booth.
"Your participation will not only help you raise money for your organization, but will teach our children to be involved in our community," according to a letter written by the event committee.
The community center has games available for groups to use, or groups can come up with their own games.
"For many years, the Dawson Springs Community Center has helped different community and school organizations when they needed the use of our building or other equipment and now we are asking for your help in making the annual BarBQ a successful event," according to the letter.
Committee members prefer that booths provide games instead of food, but vendors can offer food and drink items that are not the same as the Barbecue offers.
"We have plenty of food booths, but we need things for children and teenagers to do at the street fair," the letter states.
The deadline to reserve a space is July 12.
