The Dawson Springs cross country teams spent the Saturday of Labor Day weekend running in the Christian County Invitational.
The fruits of their labor were a third-place finish for middle school runner Kimberly Hoover, a fourth-place team finish for the varsity girls and a fifth out of 11 teams placement for middle school boys.
Hoover, who is in the seventh grade at Dawson Springs Jr./Sr. High School, ran the 3,000-meter run in 13:40.88. Her teammate Macy Drennan also ran and was 47th out of 77 runners with as time of 16:47.87. Because there were only two runners in that race, no team score was given.
Freshman Kire Peyton once again led the Panther high-school girls. This time, she finished 12th with 23:25.78 in the 5K and helped carry her team to fourth place overall out of 6 teams. Her teammates, junior Aubrie Gunn (30th, 26:15.04) and seniors Deleon Walker (32nd, 26:20.39) and Kaylee Simpson (37th, 26:51.85), also finished in the top 50 percent. Vanessa Tackett and Caitlin Lawley raced that day too. The team’s average time was 26:58.
All seven members of the middle school boy’s team finished in the top 65 of the 3K race. 119 runners competed that day.
Finishing in 14th place and first of the Panthers was Tyler Hale, an eighth-grader. His time was 12:20.48. His classmate, Ethan Osborne, finished at 21st. Other racers were Yosiyah McCune (45th), Kolby Crook (48th), Michael Faughn (57), Lucas Osborne (60) and Alex Mitchell (65th). The team was fifth overall with an average time of 13:08.
The varsity boys ran a 5K at Saturday’s invitational. Senior Tyler Weir was 35th out of 150 racers. His time was 20:12.51. Other runners were Caleb Garrett, Jake Back and Skyler Lohse. There was no team score, as the Panther boys had only 4 varsity runners that day.
The teams head to Yellow Creek Park in Owensboro on Saturday.
