Instead of shutting its gym doors permanently at the close of business on Aug. 10, the Dawson Springs Fitness Formula will incorporate a new schedule of business hours.

As of Monday, the gym will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The gym will also be closed from noon to 1 p.m. those days. The gym will be closed on Fridays.

The new hours were posted at Fitness Formula.

Baptist Health, who runs Fitness Formula, announced July 10 that the Dawson Springs gym would close a month later.

Kristy Quinn, the director of marketing and public relations at Baptist Health Madisonville, said the decision was “purely a financial decision.”

Many local citizens called and wrote to Baptist Health expressing their disappointment of the closure.

Two weeks after the closure was announced, Baptist Health extended the closure date by 90 days. Officials say they are examining possibilities of partnerships or grants to fund the gym.

Baptist Health President Rob Ramey said they will make a decision in the 90-day window, which will be from now until the first full week in November.

Fitness Formula, 225 Industrial Park Road, has been in operation 19 years.

The gym serves citizens of all generations, including senior citizens and local student-athletes.

Baptist Health said it is working to place the gym’s two employees, Debbie Scott and Christina Norris, in other positions in the organization.

Scott said the equipment not used for physical therapy will probably go to another facility.
